YOUR GUIDE TO GOLDSTONE

Hello and blessings! Today, the moon is waxing through comfort-loving cancer, so this is a good day to tend to your home, get domestic affairs in order, and give your mom a call. Emotional comfort and connection is going to be more important to you than usual over the next few days.

I realized shortly following my blog post on the man-made "crystals" that I forgot one of the most prominent offenders. Manufactured glass with inclusions of copper has appeared on the market under the name "Goldstone." Let's talk about this for a moment.

As always, I advise you to generally stay away from these man-made "stones" - some healers and witches choose to work with them, arguing that glass is made of quartz and therefore has inherent properties of its own, while others insist this is merely a rip-off. While I give these "stones" the benefit of the doubt, my point is - if you even have to question it, why bother? There are SO many easily obtained tumbled stones that are the absolute real deal. There is nothing any of the man-made crystals can do that a natural one can't do quicker and more efficiently.

So, now that you have read my disclaimer, let's talk about some of the recorded properties of Goldstone. Again, this is what the authority figures are saying - I'm not necessarily promoting the use of Goldstone, but am rather passing on the information in case you choose to work with it despite the above disclaimer. So, Goldstone is manufactured in two colors - bronzy red and cobalt blue. It is easy to spot because it LOOKS artificial, glassy, and sparkly due to the copper inclusions. It is intended to mimic the energetic signature of Gold.

Some witches say Goldstone is an efficient good luck charm for a luck/chance situation in which you have no control over the outcome, such as entering a competition or buying a lottery ticket. Likewise, it is also lucky in situations that you CAN control to help you make a good impression, whether it's a job interview, or dinner with your boyfriend's mom. It is also said to help overcome the common fear of speaking to a large group of people, so is said to be a useful talisman for public speaking. For some natural alternatives, Green Aventurine is the stand-by talisman for good luck with Amazonite as a close second, use Falcon's Eye (blue Tiger's Eye) for a job interview, and tuck a Blue Apatite into your pocket for help with public speaking.

Blue Goldstone gets its color from either added cobalt or manganese and chromium. Because it resembles a starry night sky, some say it makes a good "stone" for kids to overcome fear of the dark (Galaxite is a good natural alternative recommendation.) Likewise, it is a good luck talisman for actors or actresses to help them achieve recognition, and helps to attract good luck for those in any profession in terms of attracting opportunities and meeting the right people. Lapis Lazuli is also a good stone for achieving recognition.

So, these are some supposed properties of Goldstone in it's two colors. One thing that really got my fur up occurred when I was perusing a New Age shop that was a little sketchy, and noticed they were selling Goldstone as SUNSTONE. I was completely baffled, and headed right for the exit. I just wanted to give you this warning because it is likely that other crystal shops are doing this, too. Luckily, the two look NOTHING alike, so look up a picture of each and you will never be fooled by this crafty trick. Never buy Goldstone under the illusion it is Sunstone, as the two have very different properties. And, if you see this shady activity in a New Age shop, follow my lead and exit - this is not a reputable source from which to purchase your crystals.
